My local humane society posts pictures of new adoptions. This one makes me so happy.

The one thing we were never afraid of, was always the only thing we truly should have feared. Human beings are always afraid of the wrong things. We are afraid of being alone, when what should frighten you, is the prospect of losing yourself to someone else. And we fear death, when life obviously is the more dangerous of the two. No one has ever survived life, it kills all of us. We’ve sacrificed our instincts to the false idol of civilization. Maybe the only blessing that comes with being nothing more than an animal, and we’ve forgotten how to use it. And we ask each other, just who are the animals? And sometimes, I don’t know.
